Tell me!

What we want is rarely what we should want. Why?

I'm sorry, JM, but your post made me think of this song by some boy band:

Tell me why
Ain't nothin' but a heartache
Tell me why
Ain't nothin' but a mistake
Tell me why
I... something, blah dee blah
I want it that way...

B.S! SUre I'll concede that what we want is rarely what we get, but I'll have none of this "not what we should want" bunk.

Because we are simple, flawed human beings who mainly think of the things that can most easily improve our lives or the lives of others. However, what we need or what we "should want" is usually so much more complicated and involves so many twists and turns that we would probably never think of it in the first place.

It's really an interesting point you raise, because it's really a question of choice. God gave us the right to make our own choices, but I still believe that although we make our own choices, he knows the paths that we can/will choose and guides those paths. It's just a question of intentionally allowing him to guide or ignorantly going along and possibly taking the long road.

Um...this just got way too complicated and philosophical. Sorry! I'm going to go back to (pretending to) work. :) ~Brooke
