V for Vendetta

So I went to see V for Vendetta Sunday night. Just a couple of thoughts about the whole experience:

I stepped up to the counter and said, "1 for V for Vendetta," and the woman looks at me says, "Could I see your license?" I'm 24 years old. 24, and I just got carded for a rated R movie. That hasn't happened in, like, 2 years. I thought I was past that stage. Oh well.

I'm a little in shock that I liked the movie. I mean, by all rational logic, this is a movie I should hate. It's by the Matrix guys, and I hate that movie. It's also based on a comic book, and (Spiderman excluded) I also hate pretty much everything comic book related. It definitely had it's flaws: The mask got annoying. The symbolism was a little on the heavy side. The dialogue didn't always flow. It chased a couple rabbits.

However, I can't remember the last time I saw a big budged (action oriented, no less) movie that provoked so many questions. It's Tuesday, and I'm still thinking about it. It's message was also very unclear. It was messy. I liked this. It brought up a lot of questions and may have answered none of them.

But that's life sometimes. A lot of questions with no answers.

That is why I actually liked this movie. That and I want to have Natalie Portman's babies.

Did you notice the inconsistencies in Natalie's english accent?
We saw it on Friday. In my opinion, it was awesome. Very maddening because you can see the allusions to the complacency (sp?) of the American society. I found myself gritting my teeth several times, especially during the preacher-man speeches. I was wondering if you were going to go see this one. It had more substance than any of the other movies out right now. I kept waiting for the box office reports to say "V for Victory in the box offices this weekend..."
Just my two cents...

A few rabbit holes? He definately was preaching because the writers had a vendetta against America, Conservatives and Christians.

truth isnt biased...everything written in that article was true. She points out tons of factual references in the movie to back up her article...
Just curious, did you not catch the nazi swastika stamped on top of the british and american flags with the words "coalition of the willing"? the blatant glorification of the homosexual lifestyle?
the bible references quoted by the evil facist christian dictator? the direct showing of a pie graph showing that the party in power was the conservatives? the koran being called beautiful when people across the world have been murdered because the koran was "disrespected'?
the character assasination of a priest by depicting him as a child raper? the medical death camps run by the conservative party? the longwinded speech that promoted tolerance of all ways of life and the mocking of ideas of having absolute morals in your life?
or the fact that it glorified a terrorist who blew up the parliament buildings? not only that but they glorified the historical figure that tried to do it in the 1600's.
Why did he do it? He was Catholic and didnt like the Protestant Elizabeth, isnt that hyprocritical to use this intolerant historical figure who has hanged for being a terrorist to promote unquestioning tolerance and relativism?
did you not catch that the facist flag was basically the cross but with one more line in it?
the talkshow describing America as awful and greedy and that we have got what we deserved?
there were at least 3 references to the homosexual lifestyle that were praised and portrayed as sweetly as possible. I have nothing against the person, just the act....but this was definately putting forth a homosexual agenda. And those who disagreed were evil.
Personally, this was the most blatantly anti-christian, anti-absolute morals, anti-conservative, anti-american, pro-homosexual, pro-liberalism, pro-relativism movie that I've seen in a long long time.
Its a clash of worldviews and this movie does not put America, Christians, Conservatives, Moral absolutes in a good light.
And no...I have no connection to the website.
Just thought it was well written and completely accurate in its critique of the movie.
And dont take it personal...I just thought it would shed some light on some things you were thinking about concerning the movie.

Sorry if my repsonse seemed curt. I really don't like the "anonymous" aspect of comments because I don't know how to read things unless I know who is saying them. My best friend could say something and it mean one thing, another person says it and I don't know how to take it, you know?

Anyway, as far as the movie. I don't think of it as anti-Christian. Yes, the "big brother" govt used Christianity to oppress people, but that's actually happened before. It's a warning against mixing state and church. Look at Iran or Afghanistan (sp??) or Europe in the dark ages. People can be mislead when you start throwing in religion and not fulling explaining things.

As a Christian myself, it's hard for me to believe how many horrible things have been done in the name of Christianity. If we think it can't happen again, it probably will.

Also, true, it did get a little pro-homosexual. That would be one of the rabbits it chased, honestly I didn't see what that had to do with anything.

And the "conservative" party in any country often uses fear of others as a means to control its people. Hitler did this. And sometimes, yes, American leaders (both conservative and liberal) do this.

As far as America being greedy and evil, I think the movie was spot on. We are an amazingly self indulgent culture and if we think we can roll into any country we like and change it, we have another thing coming.

Anyway, as far as that website goes, I have a hard time embracing any site that's so obviously hard core right or left, because they are never open to questions. I like questions.

Sorry this went so long. I hope my response didn't bore you too much!

But thanks for reading, whatever your opinions. :)

On more quick thing! Sorry Sorry!

The whole point for me was to ask the question, can a terrorist ever be right? The immediate answer is, of cousre, no. But if what if the govt began to take away our liberities? What if they began to morph into a facist state that told us what God we could or could not worship. If we were executed because of our sins. That's a pretty scary thought, and I have no idea what I would do in that kind of a situation. Thank God we're not there.
